Life Update

To be honest, I had forgotten about this blog.
Life has been so busy these last... year that I have not had much time to work on my side projects and hobbies as I travel through this journey.

About a month after my last post, I received good news that I got accepted into three of the five colleges I applied to, and I was put on the wait list for the other two. There were two options that were close to home so I accepted them both as I tried to figure out which one was best for me. I heard great things about all the colleges I applied to, but once it came down to deciding which one I would go to for the next two years to start this new chapter in life, it was quite a challenge. I eventually contacted one of the colleges whose offer of admission I had accepted to let them know I was not going to be starting the dental hygiene program with them.

As the reality of being accepted into the dental hygiene program set in, I realized there were going to be some major changes coming up in life. I had to quit my job (I gave them about a month and a half notice) since I would not be able to work those hours while attending the program and I had to complete several steps prior to the program to submit required documentation.

The idea was that by leaving my job before the start of the program I would have some time to relax before having to fully focus on school (since most of my dental hygienist coworkers mentioned that while in the program they were not able to have a social life due to work). Unfortunately, that was not the case.

On December 15, 2018 I got engaged to my best friend. Since then we had not talked about setting a date since there was so much going on with my school and application process that kept us wondering if we would be getting married before, during, or after the dental hygiene program. Prior to being accepted into the program we had considered a wedding date of August 3, 2019 since my sister who lives in California would be visiting around that time, but after being accepted and realizing that would be in the middle of the program I was pretty overwhelmed trying to figure out how I would be able juggle dental hygiene school and wedding planning.

I am beyond grateful for the partner God sent to me. We literally decided on a date within a few days of this realization, and we decided to elope to the courthouse on June 7, 2019. We realized that even though we wanted to share this special moment in our lives with all our friends and family, having a private small wedding with only our family would not invalidate our marriage. This helped reduce the stress of planning a huge wedding with hundreds of people, and helped us save money (which we really needed to do considering I had just quit my job and was going to be an unemployed college student for two years).

It's been pretty busy but it's been just the right amount of entertainment in life. I know challenges are still coming my way, but I have to take a deep breath and enjoy whatever life may throw my way.
